My Labor and Delivery Story

OK..... before you start the name calling after you read this post, I want to go ahead and warn you that this post is NOT for the faint at heart, or for the woman who had a 48 hour labor two years ago that might still be a little bitter about the experience. My labor and delivery was incredibly fast and incredibly easy. I imagine Michelle Duggar from "19 kids and Counting" had a similar story, hence why she now has a whole little league football team living in her house.

So I blogged from the hospital on Thursday.... and where I left off.. Oh yeah, my first round of cytotec. Thursday night in the hospital did not last too long past 3:00 am when my water decided to break. I had had three rounds of the cervix thinning drug by this point and when my nurse Courtney ( who by the way is AWESOME; request her at Baptist East ) came to check my cervix I was 95 % thinned out and 3 cms dilated. The contractions started to come hard about 2 hours after my water broke. I didn't want to ask for an epidural because I was still 3 cms, but my nurse encouraged me to do so because my Doctor kept it on a drip anyways. I would say all-in-all I felt pain for a total of 30 mins during my labor process. Once the epidural was put into place, the pitocin drip was started. I went from 3 cms to 6 cms in a matter of 2 hours. By 9:10 am I was at 6 cms and they were telling me I might have a baby by 4:00 today. Boy were they wrong!! I jumped from 6 cms to 9 1/2 cms in an hour and a half! I knew something was going on around 10:15 and had my nurse check me... She basically said..... " Do not move, I need to get Dr. Williams here, before this baby pushes himself out!" My nurse Courtney was amazing at this point, We did two sets of three pushes before Dr. Williams walked into the room and needless to say he was shocked at how fast my labor went! After two quick sets of pushing, Blakely was here!! Wait, what?!? I didn't even break a sweat !! Now, I know my little man is smaller, weighing in a 6 lbs and 5 ozs, but I still expected to go through a little roughness at some point?

Then came the tears. Never in my life have I ever felt the way I did after I first met Blakely. It is so amazing that God has allowed Jason and I to be his parents and although we are embarking on this journey on a day to day basis, I think we are doing an OK job so far :) After getting home with our him, reality set in. I have cried more in the past 24 hours than I have in a long time. Happy tears, thankful tears, let's face it, my hormones are in full control right now. I am overwhelmed with love for someone I just met 3 days ago. My husband has been incredible; every time I see him with our baby, I fall in love all over again. OK. I have to stop. I'm going to waterlog my laptop.

Blakely's first bath at home!

I will try my best to keep my blog updated, but as you know, we are very busy around here these days :) Thank you for sharing this journey with me ! I hope to use all my posts to make a book for B man to have one day. It was fun documenting this pregnancy experience and who knows... maybe I will do it again someday....... way in the future! !
